A conversation with Eric Northbrook and Randal Schober of San Diego-based HeadNorth Foundation, whose mission is to provide essential support and guidance to individuals and families affected by spinal cord injury, while championing a cure for paralysis.  Founded in 2006, HeadNorth’s 3rd Annual Golf Invitational will be held at the Crosby Club in Rancho Santa Fe on Tuesday June 17th.  All players will receive lunch, 18 holes of golf at the exclusive Crosby Club Golf Course, and a golf gift bag, with the day concluding with a cocktail reception followed by dinner at the LIVE auction.  The Golf Invitational is HeadNorth’s major fundraiser for the year, providing much-needed funds for the foundation's ongoing mission in the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) community.  For more information on the HeadNorth Foundation and the upcoming 3rd Annual Golf Invitational, click HERE.


The Council for Supplier Diversity

The Council for Supplier Diversity, established in 1999, is a nonprofit organization whose objective is to bring corporations and minority business enterprises (MBEs) together for the economic benefit of both. The Council for Supplier Diversity represents the regional corporate outreach to MBEs in the greater San Diego region. It is our purpose to facilitate business opportunities and market share growth for minority business enterprises through the interaction of corporate members and certified suppliers.

Each year they celebrate and honor the achievements of companies and individuals that have made significant contributions in advancing supplier diversity in San Diego. We honor Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs), local corporations and minority advocates for their extraordinary efforts in strengthening the local economy and improving economic opportunities for the local minority community.

Juvenile Diabetes Foundation

JDRF is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is a disease which strikes children suddenly and requires multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump. Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation. Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $1.16 billion to diabetes research, including more than $137 million in FY2007. In FY2007, the Foundation funded 700 centers, grants and fellowships in 20 countries.

San Diego Renewable Energy Society, Inc.

Chronic Pain Study

On this edition of Living Better in San Diego, we discuss the prevalence of chronic pain, implications of various treatments, and to offer information about the non-medication chronic pain study we are conducting through UCSD/VA (non-profit) for the benefit of SD community members! The interview focuses on the significance of the necessity for the further the establishment of safe, alternative treatments and long term management of chronic pain, how common related symptoms (including depression, insomnia, and anxiety) are affected by pain and how pain in turn affects these co-morbid conditions, and finally, inform the public about the study and how residents of the greater San Diego area can participate in and support such research.
